Tips for Conserving HP Laptop Battery Power

You can manually change the power consumption of your notebook PC and conserve hp laptop battery power (such as hp 510 battery, hp pavilion dm3 battery, hp pavilion dv2000 battery, hp g7000 batteries, hp pavilion dv6000 battery etc).
1. Reduce the number of open applications . Every application uses memory, and therefore power, even when the application widow is minimized. Exit any application the is not being used.
2. Reduce the brightness of the screen to the minimum readable level. Use the Fn and F7 or F8 keys to adjust the brightness.
3. Remove peripherals when not in use. External hard drives, CD-ROMs, Zip drives, PC cards, and other peripheral devices can draw power from your hp battery (buy replacement hp laptop battery in uk. hp dv2500 battery, hp dv6500 battery etc) even when they are not in active use. Disconnect them when you are finished using them.
4. Reduce the speed of your processor. The faster your computer works, the more quickly it uses up the supply of power. You can extend the charge of your laptop battery by slowing down your processor’s speed. Methods to reduce processor speed vary from model to model, and your manual should provide instructions for doing so.
5. Turn off the Wireless On-Off button when it is not in use. If your notebook has one, press the Wireless On-Off button so that the light turns off.
6. Change the power option setting from High performance to either HP Recommended or Power saver to conserve hp battery power.

Doubling Laptop Battery Life

Anyone who uses a laptop on an airplane would love a single laptop battery to last through a trans-American flight. Now researchers at Intel believe that they can double a laptop's battery (buy cheap laptop batteries ?) life without changing the battery (such as dell 1545 battery, hp 510 battery, hp 550 battery) itself. Instead, they would optimize power management--system wide--of the operating system, screen, mouse, chips inside the motherboard, and devices attached to USB ports.

To be sure, manufacturers and researchers have been exploring piecemeal ways to make portable computers more energy efficient. Operating systems are designed to deploy power-saving screen savers and put an entire system to sleep if its owner hasn't used it after a while. And Intel's forthcoming Atom, a microprocessor for mobile Internet devices, can be put to sleep at up to six different levels, depending on the types of tasks that it needs to do.

But the problem with these approaches is that they're not coordinated across the entire device. Intel's prototype power-management system is aware of the power that's used by all parts of a laptop, as well as the power requirements of a person's activity, and it shuts down operations accordingly, says Greg Allison, business development manager. The project, called advanced platform power management, was demonstrated on Wednesday at an Intel event in Mountain View, CA.

Allison gives this example: today, when a person reads a static e-mail, the screen still refreshes 60 times a second, and peripherals such as the keyboard, mouse, and USB devices drain battery power while awaiting instructions. "We're burning energy even when we don't need to," Allison says. In this situation, Intel's system would save power by essentially taking a snapshot of the screen that a person is reading and saving it to a buffer memory. So instead of refreshing, the screen would maintain an image until a person tapped a button on the keyboard or moved the mouse (the keyboard and mouse would also stay asleep until activated).

All the while, the operating system will be monitoring use of other applications, restricting operations to those that aren't being actively used. And if there are any devices plugged into a USB port, such as a flash-memory stick, the system would put them to sleep. At the same time, explains Allison, energy-monitoring circuits on Intel chips will put unnecessary parts of the microprocessor to sleep. It takes 50 milliseconds for the entire system to spring to life, he says, a length of time imperceptible to the user.

Intel isn't the first to think of the idea of integrating power-saving technology throughout a device. One Laptop per Child (OLPC), the nonprofit that builds inexpensive, rugged laptops meant for children in the developing world, set the standard with a gadget that consumes one-tenth of the power of a conventional laptop. Granted, OLPC's laptop doesn't have the capabilities of consumer machines, but it does show what is technically achievable.

There are definitely advantages to this systemic approach, says Seth Sanders, a professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of California, Berkeley. "Comprehensively looking through the system at all of the different pieces that are cycling unnecessarily provides an opportunity [for power savings]," he says.

Allison says that the company is already talking with operating-system vendors to explore what it would take to integrate this approach into software. And as a major contributor to the new USB 3.0 standards, Intel will have some say in how much power forthcoming USB devices will use. In addition, Allison says, the company is trying to secure deals with display and hardware vendors. "This won't happen in the next three years," he says. But he suspects that pieces of the new power-management system will find their way into laptops within five years.

How to Maximize HP Laptop Battery Life

There are actions you can take to make your laptop battery last longer during each charge cycle and live longer over many cycles. HP laptop battery always recommends following the instructions for charging and storage that came with the hp battery or notebook. On this page we offer additional suggestions to help you get the most from your portable power supply.

1. Manage battery ( hp 510 battery, hp 530 battery) power more effectively in Windows/

2. Make sure your battery gives the power you need, when you need it. Power Options in Windows XP allow you to control the power management features of your notebook PC.

3.Learn more about the Power Options in Windows by visiting Microsoft's support site

4. Learn the tips for conserving battery power on notebook PCs.

5. Reduce the brightness of the screen to the minimum readable level. Use the Fn and F7 or F8 keys to adjust the brightness.

6. Remove peripherals when not in use. External hard drives, CD-ROMs, Zip drives, PC cards, and other peripheral devices can draw power from your battery even when they are not in active use. Disconnect them when you have finished using them.

7. Reduce the speed of your processor. The faster your computer works, the more quickly it uses up the supply of power. By cutting down on processor speed, you can extend the charge of your battery. Methods to reduce processor speed vary from model to model, and your manual should provide instructions for doing so.

8. Turn off the Wireless On-Off button when it is not in use. If your notebook has one, press the Wireless On-Off button so that the light turns off.

9. Learn some 'Best Battery care practices'
(1) Store Li-Ion laptop batteries between 20°C and 25°C (68°F and 77°F) with 30% to 50% charge.
(2) Do not leave hp batteries (hp 550 battery, hp pavilion dm3 battery)exposed to high temperatures for extended periods. Prolonged exposure to heat (for example, inside a hot car) will accelerate the deterioration of Li-Ion cells.
(3) Remove the battery if the notebook will be stored (turned off and not plugged into AC power) for more than 2 weeks.
(4) Remove the hp pavilion battery (pavilion dm3 battery) if the notebook will be plugged into AC power continuously (via a wall adapter or docking station) for more than 2 weeks.

10. Calibrate the notebook PC battery.
Short discharges and recharges do not fully synchronize the battery's fuel gauge with the battery's state-of-charge. This can result in the amount of power available in one cycle being less than expected or the laptop battery meter being inaccurate.
Under normal usage, batteries should be calibrated a minimum of once every 3 months.

Lenovo ThinkPad R61 & Lenovo ThinkPad R61 Battery

Lenovo ThinkPad R61

This notebook is my first notebook and will be used mostly for university studies, casual gaming, office work, web surfing and some mathematics programming. I was not looking for a gaming notebook so I chose the Intel X3100 graphics card as it provides more than enough power to satisfy Vista’s graphics requirements. Furthermore, the integrated graphics allows the notebook to remain much cooler than my friend’s T60p (ATI FireGL 5200) and last much longer on laptop battery despite its mere 4-cell lenovo laptop battery (compared to the T60p’s 9-cell).

I considered the Dell Inspiron 6400 (dell inspiron 6400 battery), HP Pavilion dv6500t, Thinkpad T60 and of course the popular ThinkPad T61 (lenovo thinkpad t61 battery) before purchasing this notebook. After researching each candidate, I ruled out the Inspiron 6400, Pavilion dv6500t and was left with three Thinkpad choices.

I heard great things about the Thinkpad lines, mostly their reputation as rugged companions with reliable performance. The T60 and T61 proved to be similar in price. Actually, the T61 was cheaper (with comparable specifications) in Canada compared to the T60. However, further comparison of the T61 and R61 showed the T61 (t61 battery) had little to offer me over the R61. The price difference was $200 CAD before tax and I figured that the extra 0.2 lb of weight and 0.2 inches thickness was well worth saving the money for upgrades and accessories.

Lenovo ThinkPad R61 Battery
The 4-cell thinkpad r61 battery lasts about three and a half hours from a full charge down to 5% with lowest screen brightness and minimal use (office work and internet, therefore wireless on). Watching a DVD drained the lenovo battery in around two hours. The times seem respectable since it is only the 4-cell lenovo r61 battery. Therefore, I considered the possibility of purchasing another 7-cell lenovo thinkpad r61 battery to use in conjunction with the 4-cell. This combination should last the whole day when needed for a day of lectures or certain events.

Prolong Dell Laptop Battery Life

Battery Tips to Prolong Your Dell Laptop Battery Life

A new dell laptop battery ( dell inspiron battery, dell latitude battery, dell vostro battery etc ) comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use . Upon initial use (or after a prolonged storage period) the laptop battery (such as vgp-bps8, vgp-bps9, vgp-bps9b ) may require three to four full charge/discharge cycles before achieving maximum capacity.
New dell laptop batteries ( such as dell 1545 battery, dell 1525 battery, dell vostro 1000 battery etc)are hard for the device to charge; they have never been fully charged and are therefore “unformed”. Sometimes the device’s charger will stop charging a new battery before it is fully charged. If this happens, remove the battery from the device and then reinsert it. The charge cycle should begin again. This may happen several times during the first battery charge. Don’t worry; it’s perfectly normal for the dell battery.
Do not leave the dell laptop battery dormant for long periods of time. We recommend using the battery at least once every two to three weeks. If the dell battery has not been used for a long period of time, perform the new battery break in procedure described above.
The replacement dell inspiron battery (inspiron 1501 battery, inspiron 6400 battery etc)will often be higher than the original laptop battery. A higher mAH rating is indicative of a longer lasting (higher capacity) battery and will not cause any incompatibilities. A Hi-Capacity battery will, in most cases, outperform the original by 30% to 50%.

The NR160 offers a stylish exterior, but average performance. Representing Sony in the budget notebook arena, the VAIO VGN-NR160E may not be as flashy as its more expensive VAIO siblings, but it's attractive nonetheless. You don't get a lot of extras with this system, and performance is merely average, but we love the big keyboard keys and spacious hard drive. The Sony VAIO VGN-NR160E falls somewhere in the middle in terms of performance, but its cool textured styling, decent sony vaio vgn-nr160e battery life, and brilliant display make this notebook a pretty good value.

Dell Inspiron 1525 Battery Q&A

Q: My dell inspiron 1525 laptop icon says:plugged, not charging. What can I do?
the charger light is on but the icon shows 16% available(plugged in, not charging)

A: I had an Inspiron with a similar problem... 1st check the dell inspiron 1525 battery isnt loose or anything, or it may just be your dell 1525 battery has died... otherwise mine did this because the power socket was broken and therefore not enough power was getting through... in which case it may need either a replacement socket or like with mine it may be the end of the laptops life! Of course it may be none of these but its what ive seen before.

Q: Dell Inspiron 1525 battery not charging, also detecting flash drive when not there?
I have an Inspiron 1525. I recently had the power cord replaced because my inspiron 1525 battery will not charge, and the blue light indicating the charge will not light up even though the icon on my computer acknowledges that it is plugged in. Even with the new cord, I can keep my computer running as long as it is plugged in at all times, but it still will not add charge.
Also, the icon for detected hardware (a flash drive) keeps popping up then disappearing at the bottom corner of my screen. It's driving me out of my mind. Since the charger port is next to the USB port on my laptop, could it be a circuitry issue? Has anyone else had this problem? Help!

A: Sounds like the motherboard might need replacing. I have a 1525 and have not experienced this issue, but motherboards and dell batteries can just "die". Call dell and tell them you want your mobo replaced. If you are firm with them they make you jump through a lot less hoops.

Q: Where to buy a cheap third-party dell inspiron 1525 battery pack?

A: Powerlaptopbattery.co.uk supply replacement dell laptop batteries online. 6600mAh replacement battery for dell inspiron 1525 compatible with orginal dell inspiron 1525 battery, dell inspiron 1526 battery, dell inspiron 1545 battery.

20 Ways To Increase Laptop’s Battery Life

20 Ways To Increase Laptop’s Battery Life

1. Ship shape with a defrag
Regular defragmentation helps to arrange data more efficiently thus making the hard drive work less to access the data. The quicker the moving hard drive works lesser is the load placed on the battery (buy battery for dell inspiron 1545, a1181). Thus, your batter can last longer. The effect is minimal, but this efficiency goes hand in glove with hard drive maintenance.

2. Kill the resource gobblers
End the background processes that are not vital. Monitor the resource usage through a ‘Ctrl-Alt-Del’ which brings up the Windows Task Manager (in Windows). If you’re not on the internet, it is safe to shut down the immediate non-essential programs running in the taskbar like the antivirus and the firewall. Weed out unnecessary programs running as start-ups by launching the System Configuration Utility from Run – Msconfig – Tab: Startup. Uncheck the programs which you don’t want to launch and reboot the computer once.

3. Pause the scheduled tasks
It may be a defrag or a virus scan, but make sure it is scheduled for a time when you are near a power outlet. If not then nix them for the moment.

4. Unplug external devices
USB devices are the biggest drainers of battery power. Unplug all external devices like an external mouse, PC cards, Wi-Fi, external speakers, Bluetooth and even an attached iPod.

5. Empty the CD/DVD Drives
Even if you don’t intend to use it, don’t leave any CD/DVDs as leftovers in the drives. A spinning drive sucks battery power like a sponge.

6. Go local
Desist using the DVD/external drives while running on batteries. Shift the content to the hard drive or run using (free) virtual drives like Pismo File Mount or even Microsoft’s Virtual CD ROM Control Panel.

7. Lower the lights
The LCD screen of a laptop is another huge power sink. Calibrate the brightness to the lowest level you can tolerate using the Function key toggles or using the Display Settings applet in the Control Panel.

8. Kill the sounds
Mute the speakers and try avoiding the use of multimedia software to maximize the battery life. Installed sound schemes also drain a battery (lithium 1501 battery, 1525 battery, 1526 dell battery) perceptibly.

9. Rid the screensaver
To maximize battery (laptop batteries, replacement laptop batteries) life by a little, switch off the screensaver.

10. Visit Power Options
Get familiar with power management through the ‘Power Options’ applet in the Control Panel. Both XP and Vista come with advanced power management features which shut off components like the monitor and/or the hard drive after specified intervals. This again depends on the chosen ‘Power Schemes’ (for XP) in the same applet. For instance in XP, ‘Max Battery’ under Power Schemes can be selected for maximum battery (apple a1175 batteries, apple a1189 batteries) optimization.

Similar settings can be found under ‘Mobile PC’ in the Control Panel of Vista.

11. Turn off the looks
Today’s OS’s like Windows Vista come with features like ‘Aero Glass’ which are resource guzzlers. One can turn it off and go for the ‘Classic’ appearance which consumes less power. In Vista, click on Desktop – Preferences – View Colour – Appearance – Classic Appearance and Windows Basic graphical interface. In XP it’s – Display Properties – Theme – Windows Classic.

Linux and even Macintosh are better optimized for longer battery (dell batteries, sony batteries, apple batteries) life.

12. Hibernate is better than Sleep
In the Stand By mode (or sleep mode), the computer turns of the hard drive and the display but memory remains active while the CPU slows down. This draws on the battery. In contrast, hibernation mode is better because the computer saves the current state and shuts itself down completely thus saving power.

13. Get the most…work on the least
Working on too many programs while on the battery is a sure fire power drainer. Keep use of graphic intensive applications to a minimum. Working on a spreadsheet consumes much less than playing your favourite game. To increase the life of the battery open just one or two programs concurrently.

14. Ram in more RAM
Adequate RAM reduces the load on Virtual memory which by default resides on the hard drive. Though every extra bit of RAM uses up more power, it increases overall savings by short cutting access to the power hungry hard drive.

15. Keep it clean
A laptop with blocked air vents will generate more heat thus reducing the life of the battery. Clean the air vents regularly to keep operating temperatures low. Allow for open space around the vents for air to circulate freely. Keep the area around the laptop clean to avoid entry of dust.

16. Temperature is a silent killer
Undue heat kills off a battery slowly but surely. Avoid leaving the laptop under direct sunlight or inside a closed car.

17. Avoid the memory effect
A problem more for the older Ni-MH batteries than for Li-Ion batteries on which most modern laptops run. Memory effect relates to the loss of battery charge when they are repeatedly recharged after being only partially discharged. It can be prevented by discharging the battery fully and then completely recharging it. Li-Ion batteries on the other hand have no problems with partial discharges and re-charges and complete discharge is never recommended for this type.

18. Update software and drivers
This sounds a bit incongruous but then newer drivers and software are often designed to be more efficient (and hopefully less resource hungry).

19. Use the right adapter
Ensure that the adapter you use to charge the laptop battery is an original one or one with the correct specifications. A mismatch in the wattage could cause an overload thus damaging the laptop and the battery.

20. Pack it up
If you don’t plan to use the laptop on batteries for quite some time, ensure that the charge is nearly 40 percent – remove the batteries and store it in a cool place.

A typical lithium ion laptop battery has an overall average life of 2-3 years. With some care and caution, its mortality can be delayed.

Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch Review

If I remove the battery & run from a power source will it lengthen battery life?

Apple MacBook Pro 15-inch Review

Performance
Like other systems we’ve tested with the Intel Core i7-620M processor, the MacBook Pro returned superb results, especially considering it was paired with 4GB of RAM. After installing Windows 7, we ran PCMark Vantage in Boot Camp, and saw a score of 6,699; that’s nearly double the mainstream average of 3,885, not to mention the previous 15-inch MacBook Pro’s score of 3,285 (which used a 2.66-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4GB of RAM). The HP Envy 15, which uses a 1.6-GHz Intel Core i7-720QM processor and 6GB of RAM, came in about 500 points lower, at 6,173. However, the Sony Vaio Z, which had a 2.4-GHz Core i5-520M processor, scored a much higher 9,936 (though that system had dual SSDs).

Multitasking on this MacBook Pro (Buy cheap apple laptop battery pack ? Apple macbook pro 17-inch battery, macbook pro 15-inch battery, apple a1175 battery, apple a1189 battery, apple a1181 battery, apple a1185 battery) was a breeze; we had about a dozen windows open in Safari, including Google Docs and streaming music from Pandora, and were able to easily pan around lower Manhattan in Google Earth. 3D Buildings rendered in about 5 seconds, and flying around the city was smooth.

Booting into Mac OS X 10.6 took the 500GB hard drive a speedy 44 seconds, but loading Windows 7 was a somewhat slower 1 minute and 25 seconds. We saw the same difference when duplicating a 4.97GB folder of multimedia: in the Mac OS, it took 2:45 (30.8 MBps), whereas in Windows it took 4:20 (19.6 MBps). Still, there are some benefits to operating in Boot Camp; we transcoded a 114MB MPEG-4 to AVI using Oxelon Media Encoder in just 47 seconds, a new record.

Battery Life and Wireless
We never expect stellar apple laptop battery life out of 15-inch notebooks, yet that’s where the MacBook Pro really stands out. On our laptop Battery Test (continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi) the notebook lasted 7 hours and 54 minutes, more than double the category average (3:40), and akin to endurance you’d see on an ultraportable or thin-and-light. Even then, comparable notebooks were found wanting: The Sony Vaio Z lasted just 5:21 on stamina mode, and the ASUS U30Jc gave out after 7:07. While the older MacBook Pro managed 8:06, the endurance on the newer model is all the more impressive when you consider its increased power.

Step 2 — Memory Door
Remove the three identical Phillips screws from the memory door.

Step 3
Lift the memory door up enough to get a grip on it, and slide it toward you, pulling it away from the casing.

Step 4 — Upper Case
Remove the two Phillips screws in the apple laptop battery compartment near the latch.

Step 5
Remove the following 6 screws:
Two 10 mm T6 Torx screws on either side of the RAM slot.
Four 14.5 mm Phillips screws along the hinge.

Step 6
Remove the four Phillips screws on the port side of the computer.

Step 7
Rotate the computer 90 degrees and remove the two Phillips screws from the rear of the computer.

Step 8
Rotate the computer 90 degrees again and remove the four Phillips screws from the side of the computer.

Step 9
Do not yank the upper case off quickly. The case is attached to the logic board via a ribbon cable.

Lift up at the rear of the case and work your fingers along the sides, freeing the case as you go. Once you have freed the sides, you may need to rock the case up and down to free the front of the upper case.

Step 10
Disconnect the trackpad and keyboard ribbon cable from the logic board, removing tape as necessary.

Remove the upper case.

Step 11 — Hard Drive
Disconnect the orange hard drive ribbon cable from the logic board.

Step 12
Use a spudger to carefully loosen the adhesive securing the sleep light and IR sensor connectors to the top of the hard drive.

Step 13
Remove the two silver Phillips screws securing the hard drive retaining bracket to the lower case.

Step 14
Slide the Bluetooth board out of its slot next to the hard drive. The Bluetooth board is still connected to the orange hard drive cable, so don't try to remove it entirely from the computer.
